It was only a matter of time before Trevor Zegras would find the back of the net with the Flyers. He had already shown off his playmaking abilities, collecting five assists in seven games heading into Saturday afternoon against the Islanders.
Before getting on the board for the first time, Zegras flashed that skill with a no-look pass to Christian Dvorak. Standing near the blueline, Zegras took the cross-ice feed from Matvei Mickov. Players of this skill level seem to know where their teammates are at all times. As Zegras was looking straight ahead, he passed a bullet to the front of the net.
Ilya Sorkin had no chance as he started moving to his right to try and cut off the pass. It gave Dvorak an easy backhand tap into the net to bring the Flyers within one goal.

Dvorak decided to return the favor early in the second period. Zegras dropped the pass back to Dvorak as he skated up from center ice. Skating into the zone, the latter had the puck tipped off his stick, but managed to use his arm to bat the puck in front of him. Once he regained his position, he quickly turned and found Zegras behind him.
In one fluid motion, Zegras ripped the puck around the blocker of Sorokin. The celebration afterward told the story. Jamie Drysdale earned the secondary assist on the goal as he made the pass to Zegras as the Flyers left the defensive zone. Ironically, he also earned an assist on Zegras' first goal in a Ducks uniform.

But Zegras wasn't done there. A little over three minutes after the Islanders took the lead on a goal from Maxim Tsyplakov, the Flyers found themselves on the power play. Rick Tocchet went to his second unit, which features Zegras and the Noah Cates line. With the puck along the boards, Bobby Brink skated into the faceoff dot and fired a shot toward Sorokin.
After the rebound came into the slot, the Flyers crashed the net. Zegras reached in as Sorokin got the pad out to make another save. As the players pile around Sorokin, the puck eventually found its way in.
The goal was initially credited to Cates as it looked like he had tapped it in at the side of the net. Upon further review, it appeared Zegras was the last to touch the puck as it eventually slowly slid into the net amongst the pile in front.

While it doesn't count as a hat trick, Zegras did score the first goal of the shootout as well. He finished the game with three points, his first with that many points since 2023.
