The Philadelphia Flyers are entering offseason mode, where they look to build upon what has been an incredible season. Their most important piece of business is, undoubtedly, re-signing Trevor Zegras, their big acquisition last offseason. Zegras is set to be a restricted free agent this summer, and given the 67-point season he had in Philadelphia, it makes sense for the Flyers to try and sign him to a contract extension.

As it turns out, Zegras wants a new deal in Philadelphia, too.

While speaking with reporters on Tuesday, Zegras said that he would "love to be here for a long time" when it comes to signing a new contract with the Flyers.

"I would love that. I would love to be here for a long time and I hope that that would happen over the next couple of months or whatever the time frame will be," said Zegras. "I love playing here. I love the fans. I love the group that we have and that would be something I'd be excited for."

Trevor Zegras said he would 'love' to re-sign with Flyers

Zegras wasn't exactly vague about his interest, let's just say that. He sounds like he fully wants to stay in Philadelphia for the foreseeable future.

Zegras had a career resurgence with the Flyers after having a tumultuous tenure with the Anaheim Ducks. After a strong start to his career in Anaheim, he went through injuries, coaching changes, and position changes. Then last summer, the Ducks and Flyers negotiated a trade to send Zegras to the Flyers.

The rest was history, as Zegras immediately benefited from the change of scenery. As mentioned earlier, he put up 67-points, which were second most on the Flyers in the regular season and the most he put up in a single campaign. Not to mention, his 26 goals were the most he put up in a single season in his entire career.

In the playoffs, Zegras recorded six points, the most of any Flyer on the roster in their 10 game postseason stint.

The Flyers overcame expectations this season, and Zegras played a huge role in that. Given that, it makes sense for the team to try to keep him around long-term. Based on Zegras' comments, he sounds open to it too.
