The Flyers Prospect is Scoring in Bunches
Well say what you want about Flyers prospect Elliot Desnoyers, but he can score faster than a Philadelphian can count votes. The young Halifax Mooseheads center scored four goals against Charlottetown Islanders leading his team to a 5-4 victory.
His fourth tally came with less than a minute remaining in the game, using a second effort to lift the puck over the goaltender. It was the second time this season that Desnoyers has scored four in a game.
Desnoyers was the 5th round pick of the Flyers in the 2020 draft, the 135th overall. He currently leads his team with 10 goals (two 4 goal efforts) and 17 points, a total good enough for third in the league.
Despite Desnoyers’s efforts, the Mooseheads are struggling and are 5th place in the competitive Maritimes division of the QMJHL. They are six points behind the division leader Charlottetown. Last night’s effort was a player scoring big-time goals in a big-time game. Every team needs guys who can raise their game when it matters like Desnoyers just did.
The season is still young, but Desnoyers is tearing up the QMJHL in his draft+1 year. With the QMJHL being the only league that is playing games, the center is sure to get more attention than usual. He seems to be thriving with the added eyes on him and can expect more after a second four-goal effort.
If he can continue his torrid pace, it makes the Flyers 2020 draft class look that much better. To put things in perspective, Desnoyers finished the 2019-2020 season with 11 goals in 61 games. He is about to eclipse that mark in the first month of the season. It is still early on, but we could be looking at a player who is making a quantum leap.
If your interest is peaked, the Mooseheads take on the Sea Dogs of Saint John this afternoon, and you may be able to catch the live stream.
It seems as if the Flyers might have found a late-round gem in Desnoyers.
