There is a classic South Park moment where Stan goes to the bank to invest his money The bank loses it, as well as everyone else’s money. While “transferring” these monies into hedge funds, stocks, and other accounts, the banker ends up saying “…And it’s gone” to every deposit. So far this offseason, that is what seems like has been happening to the Flyers players.
Winger Bobby Brink, who played in 10 games this past year and had four assists inured his hip during an offseason workout…and he’s gone.
Brink was one of the young guys the Flyers brought up to play after the season was pretty much a done deal. He was brought up with guys like Noah Cates to see how they could play at the NHL level. The 2019 second rounder showed that he might have some potential in the limited playing time he got.
Brink and the team will have to reevaluate the depth of his injury and how long he will be out. He may require surgery, but it is yet to be determined. Brink was expected take a real run at a roster spot this upcoming dear. The 21 year old scored 14 goals and 57 point for the Univ of Denver this year as a junior, more than doubling his stats from his freshman year.
Not counting the draft and Tony DeAngelo trade, this has been a very disconcerting offseason for the Orange and Blank. Ivan Fedotov, their potential backup goalie, is being detained in Russia. Despite good news about Ryan Ellis by the team, rumors still persist that he will not be ready for the start of the season if at all. Joel Farabee is out with a neck injury. And Jay O’Brien, one of the top prospects for the team, is also having hip surgery.
With the Flyers in a retool/rebuild/reset and so many young players not being able to be counted on, the team could be in big trouble. They do not have a whole lot of wiggle room when it comes to salary cap, so they may not have room to get depth pieces unless they move someone.
