As the NHL Draft moves on, there have been plenty of fun and heartwarming stories to share.
Caleb Malhotra was drafted to the Canucks, where his father just became head coach. The Penguins drafted Liam and Markus Ruck, keeping them together whenever they hit the NHL. And Jaxon Clover, who only started playing ice hockey five years ago, was the final pick of the first round.
Oftentimes, players get drafted to the team they were a fan of growing up. Tynan Lawrence, drafted by St Louis, attended Jake Allen’s mini camps and admitted to having some Blues items in his bedroom.
The Flyers have recently had a habit of landing prospects who grew up as fans. Porter Martone had a poster of Claude Giroux in his bedroom growing up, and met Wayne Simmonds, someone he reunited with at development camp the summer after he was drafted.
Philadelphia did it again with their second-round pick, drafting Brek Liske of the Everett Silvertips.
Liske had multiple connections to the organization. Bill Meltzer, the team’s official writer, is a friend of Lonnie Liske, Brek’s father. It’s his dad that Brek credited his fandom to as well.
“My dad was always a big Flyers fan throughout his whole life and kind of brainwashed me into it. From a young age, I was going to Flyers games, wearing Flyers stuff. Just always been a Flyers fan,” Liske said after being drafted.
And even though Liske was at a watch party back home, he still managed to have a Flyers jersey on during his media introduction. It helps that his father had about 30 jerseys to go around, so there were plenty for friends and family to share. Also a fan of Giroux, Liske admitted that his jersey number before was in honor of him, just flipped around to 82.

"I've never heard [my dad] yell so loud. It was a big cheer, but I could distinctly hear my dad's voice. He's wearing his Flyers jersey very proud right now. I think he's a little more in awe than me right now
And while Liske grew up with a Giroux-led Flyers team, his father fell in love with the team during the Broad Street Bullies era in 1980. He even had an orange Jeep with a Flyers logo tire cover and a Philly license plate. If it were up to his father, Brek would've even been named after one of the players. Now that really would've been a full circle moment.
Now he gets to live out he and his dad's dream.
