Jack Berglund could be the center the Flyers need

Flyers may already have the center of their dreams.

A lot has been said over the last few seasons that the Philadelphia Flyers need a big-time center. For them to be complete, they need an Eric Lindros-Claude Giroux level type of guy who can turn this team around. You will probably find this argument being made as much as the "Flyers need to fix the power play".

However, the free agent market for centers is kind of thin. The Flyers could trade for one, but what would that cost? Is it worth trading a prospect or prospects and picks for someone? For someone like Adam Fantilli, maybe. For an older vet, most likely not.

But what if the Flyers don't need to acquire one? What if they already have one waiting down below? I'm not talking about Jett Luchanko, although he certainly deserves a chance to prove himself this fall. I'm talking about another top Flyers' prospect.

Jack Berglund has the chance to develop into the center the Flyers need

Last June, the Flyers made size their main priority when it came to their draft selections. One of their strongest picks was a young Swedish center named Jack Berglund. In line with the direction this team would make under new coach Rick Tocchet, Berglund was praised for being a strong two-way forward.

While playing for Sweden in international tournaments, he helped guide the Swedish junior team to a bronze medal in 2024 before guiding them to a gold medal this season. His play overseas was impressive enough to bring him over to the Lehigh Valley Phantoms near the end of their season. In five games, he scored one goal and served 13 penalty minutes.

Berglund is still raw. However, he will likely make an appearance at the Flyers' rookie camp. It would be interesting to see him out on the ice between guys like Denver Barkey or Porter Martone. If they make a strong connection, there is a good chance he could make it to training camp in September.

With some veteran centers like Noah Cates and Sean Couturier on hand, Berglund could start to develop his skills to become a more elite center. If the Flyers can wait another season, Berglund could slide in and become a major contributor.
