Most famous celebrity Flyers fans you may or may not spot at games in Philly

There are quite a few notable celebrities who love the Flyers.

For any professional sports fans watching games on television or in-person, you are bound to see some celebrities in attendance to cheer on the home team. For Philadelphia, the Eagles have gotten plenty of attention due to their recent success and the amount of big-name stars that cheer for the Birds. The likes of Bradley Cooper, Anne Hathaway, Kevin Hart, and Mike Trout have been spotted rooting for the Eagles, whether it's in the regular season, the playoffs, or the Super Bowl.

Let's not forget about the Flyers. Sure, they may not get the amount of national love as the Eagles do, but they do have incredible support from the team. Some have shown their support during their most recent playoff run. There are some well-known names that you cheer for the Flyers, and you also may spot them in the crowd at Xfinity Mobile Arena for games.

David Boreanaz

One of the biggest celebrity Flyers fans is actor David Boreanaz. Known for playing the role of Angel in Buffy the Vampire Slayer and the spinoff series Angel, and Seeley Booth in the drama series Bones, Boreanaz is well known as a die-hard Flyers fan. He has Philadelphia roots, as his father was Dave Roberts, the weatherman for WPVI-TV from 1983 until 2009.

When the Flyers hosted the 2012 Winter Classic at Citizens Bank Park, Boreanaz penned an essay that was included in the game's official program, talking about his love of the team and how much it represents the city of Philadelphia. Even on the show Bones, there would always be pieces of Flyers memorabilia in Booth's office.

There are also various photos in which Boreanaz has hit the ice in Flyers gear over the years.

Rob McElhenney

It shouldn't be a surprise that the actor that plays Mac in the FX hit comedy series It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia. Rob McElhenney might be known around the world as the co-owner of the Welsh soccer club, Wrexham F.C. alongside fellow actor Ryan Reynolds, but he is a true Philadelphia sports fan, as he cheers for the Eagles, 76ers, Phillies, and of course, the Flyers.

McElhenney incorporated his Flyers fandom into It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia. In a Season 16 episode of the show, Mac and Dennis Reynolds think they are pitching a business idea to Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts, but they find out it was actually the Flyers' beloved mascot, Gritty. Earlier in the series, McElhenney filmed a scene on the ice at the Flyers' home arena, then called the Wells Fargo Center.

Shane Gillis

One of the current and most well-known stand-up comedians is also a huge Flyers fan. Shane Gillis is a Pennsylvania native and has been spotted over the years representing the Flyers at home and away games. Gillis is known for starring in the Netflix comedy series, Tires, and for his podcast Matt and Shane's Secret Podcast.

Earlier this year, before the Flyers' first home game of their first-round playoff series against the Pittsburgh Penguins, Gillis was chosen to "ignite the orange," before puck-drop.

Adam F. Goldberg

When it comes to Flyers celebrity fandom, who could forget about Adam Goldberg. The producer and writer is most known for his creation of the hit ABC series, The Goldbergs, which is based on his life growing up in Pennsylvania in the 1980s. Goldberg and his family were also Flyers season-ticket holders.

The Goldbergs featured the Flyers quite a bit, whether it be memorabilia or mentioning specific moments in team history, such as Ron Hextall becoming the first goalie to score a goal back in 1987. The show also paid tribute to team owner Ed Snider back on a Season 3 episode after his passing in 2016.

Dave Mustaine

The lead for one of the top thrash metal bands in history is also a huge Flyers fan. Dave Mustaine is the frontman of Megadeth, the metal band best who had multiple platinum records, most notably Countdown to Extinction. Before forming Megadeth, Mustaine was the lead guitarist for Metallica.

Mustaine is a California native, but became a Flyers fan in 2008. A columnist for the Washington Post made derogatory comments about Flyers fanbase, saying that they look like they "could be security for Megadeth." Mustaine teamed up with the Flyers to allow fans to print out iron-on "Megadeth Security" logos for their shirts. After this, Mustaine became a Flyers fan ever since.
