The Boston Bruins always seem to have the edge over the Philadelphia Flyers no matter what. Philly was hoping to turn the tide a little bit with their playoff hopes on the line.

Things started well for them when Ryan Poehling gave them a 1-0 lead at 4:18 of the first period. Before the period expired though, Morgan Geekie got the Bruins on the board and tied the game.

Just after the midway point of the second period, Joel Farabee scored to give the Flyers the lead back. Charlie Coyle would answer about three minutes later and the second period ended in a 2-2 tie. The answer here was simple, if you win the third period you win the game.

Within the first five minutes of the third, however, the Bruins scored three unanswered goals to lead 5-2. It looked pretty hopeless at that point, and John Tortorella was unhappy.

Remarkably, he got his team going a little bit again after that. Within a minute of each other later in the third, Nick Delauriers and Morgan Frost each got one to pull the Flyers within a goal.

This is where the game got wild. Danton Heinen restored the Bruins's multi-goal lead, but Joel Farabee scored his second of the game to bring it back within one goal less than a minute later. At 6-5, this game felt like it could go either way.

The Flyers pushed hard with the extra attacker but they were unable to get it tied back up. The Bruins took that 6-5 final to the bank for two points. The Flyers could have used those two points but they just barely missed out.

This was the first game of their six-game gauntlet against super-elite teams. They only have a three-point lead on a postseason berth with 14 games to go. It will be tough but they control their own destiny.

Their next game comes on Tuesday night. They will have a rematch against the Toronto Maple Leafs who just smoked them last week. It is a big week for Philly. After this tough Bruins loss, it is time to dig deep.
