This wasn’t the most perfect weekend of all time for the Philadelphia Flyers. They beat the Boston Bruins (which has been a hard task for them over the years) on Saturday and then lost to the Florida Panthers on Sunday

They would probably sign up for two out of four points over this difficult weekend knowing how hard of a slate it is. With all of the hard games ahead of it too, it is an okay weekend all things considered.

They are also 4-4-2 in their last ten games. It isn’t a great record by any means but with the stretch of games against top ten teams that they are currently going through, it seems fair. A lot of the teams below them in the standings have been underwhelming as well which makes it even better.

Now, the Washington Capitals have gone on a little bit of a run. They are now only two points behind the Flyers for third in the Metropolitan Division. They also have two fewer games played. If the Capitals do catch them, however, the Flyers will fall to the second Wild Card. Holding a postseason spot of any kind is their goal at this point.

The next closest team to them is an Atlantic Division team in the Detroit Red Wings. The Flyers have a three-point lead on them and have played one more game. The team after that, the New York Islanders, have six fewer points than the Flyers.

There is only one more game for the Flyers on this difficult stretch against elite teams. They play the New York Rangers on Tuesday night. It would be nice to get that win as things certainly lighten up after that.

After that game against New York, they wrap up March against the Montreal Canadiens and Chicago Blackhawks. Then, in April, five of their final seven games are against teams not currently holding a playoff spot. It is a decent position for them to be in with 10 games to go.

Philly has the coach and enough great players to finish the job. Nobody expected anything from them coming into the year so it is already a win. Now, it is time to close this thing out.
